Additional Iogear GCS1732 MiniView Extreme Multimedia KVMP Switch with Cables Information

IOGEARs new MiniView Extreme Multimedia KVM and Peripheral Sharing Switch brings extra value to conventional KVM switches by offering USB peripheral sharing capabilities, audio and microphone support, and multi-platform support for Windows, Mac, and Sun systems using either USB and PS/2(additional cables needed for PS/2, IOGEAR Part No. G2L5302P). You can save money and space by eliminating the need for multiple monitors, keyboards, mice, and peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, zip drives, and more. Up to 127 different USB devices can be daisy chained from this KVMP switch. Sharing speakers and a microphone also offers extra value and convenience for the users. USB and KVM technology together makes cross-platform management easy. A single USB console can control a PC and a Mac, or even a Sun workstation, and share peripherals and audio devices between the computers. Any USB-enabled computers, using any USB-compatible operating system, can benefit from the efficiency, expense reduction and convenience of IOGEARs Miniview Extreme KVMP switch.

What Customers Say About Iogear GCS1732 MiniView Extreme Multimedia KVMP Switch with Cables:

My setup is a G4 Mac Mini, and a beige G3--both of which work just fine on their own. Now, only the video works on the G3 side. And the tech 'wizards' at Iogear (who all use voice over and sound like fish gurgling in a toilet bowl) have no clue what to do. Keyboard, mouse and monitor work fine on the mini. especially when tech support is so lacking,,,oh,,, yes, they did tell me to switch cables, unplug and replug, shut down and start up,, blah blah. Same on the G3 EXCEPT no mouse click. I got the KVM switch. No keyboard or mouse response.

Mouse moved just fine, but wouldn't click. 'Techs' at Iogear said to upgrade the firmware on the KVM, which I did. I don't recommend using this 'switch'. They're not even in India.

Simple to set up. Easy to use. Does what it is supposed to do. Good customer support.

Everything is connected and working well. The one thing I had problems with at first was that you have to hold the switch button for two seconds (not just a quick click) if you want ALL of the peripherals to be transferred to the other computer. I have the Microsoft Wireless 5000 keyboard and mouse and wanted my new Vista platform desktop to share the mouse, keyboard, monitor, audio and printer with my old reliable XP desktop. I bought this product because I had heard it would work with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I managed to miss this point when reading the documentation and couldn't understand why I was getting sound from one computer while the monitor, mouse and keyboard were working with the other. It seems to work just fine. There's even an additional usb slot for my external hard drive. I finally caught that trick but it was easily missed if you're installing in a hurry. The upside is that you can put a CD in one computer and listen while working with a memory hog program on the other computer.I would recommend this product.

The product was pretty easy to connect to both computers, and it's sleek design is great.

A great little feature is the ability to independently switch the audio and/or USB sources without switching the KVM source. I have tried many KVM switching systems in the past, most recently the Belkin SOHO series, and they all seem to have annoying quirks and bugs (mouse tracking gets messed up when switching sometimes, won't work with wireless input devices, etc). Not the IOGear. Everything worked immediately and I haven't encountered any problems at all thus far. So, for example, you can keep the tunes going on one machine and the sound doesn't get interrupted when switching. Also nice is the relatively small footprint of the unit. The integrated cabling system is very compact and reduces clutter, with all lines wrapped in one cord.
